Carbon Footprint

In addition of preserving the artisanal traditional fishing methods Al Marsa Fisheries management has taken the engagement to reduce its carbon footprint by reducing its consumption of gas, electricity, water and paper. Al Marsa Fisheries is also aiming at recycling 100% of its waste.

Sustainable Fishing

Al Marsa Fisheries has taken the engagement to respect the fishing rules from the Sultanate of Oman (such as seasonality for certain species, minimum size…). But Al Marsa Fisheries has decided to go further and is decided to respect several sets of rules issued from the FAO as the “Code of Conduct for Sustainable Fisheries”, and the “Guidelines for the Ecolabelling Products from Marine Capture Fisheries”.

Stocks

Al Marsa Fisheries has decided to settle its activities in the Sultanate of Oman on the shores of the Indian Ocean. In the latest FAO reports this area falls in the underexploited or moderately exploited category for fish captures.

Al Marsa Fisheries is also studying closely the stocks reports from the local authorities and it has been estimated that the company accounts annually for 0.02% of total marine reserves in Omani waters thus not harming the level of stocks and having a long-term vision.

Traditionnal Fishing

The company procures fish only from small artisan traditional fishing operations using the hand line (one hook) method which has different sustainable impacts:

- Elimination of by-batch and discards
- No impact on the seabed
- Great selectivity and quality

Eco-certification - FOS

Since the beginning of its activities in 2007 Al Marsa Fisheries is deeply involved in sustainable development.

As a reward of all the efforts that have been made to promote sustainability Al Marsa Fisheries has received the prestigious international eco-certification “Friend of the Sea” in 2010, making Al Marsa Fisheries the first company in Oman and in the Middle East to receive the recognition.

In 2011 Al Marsa Fisheries has received the Artisanal Fisheries award for its engagement to source from the Oman selective artisanal small-scale fishery and its outstanding collaboration to the Friend of the Sea project.

Located in the Sultanate of Oman on the shores of the Arabian Sea, Al Marsa Fisheries operates in the Indian Ocean recognised to be one of the world’s most unpolluted marine environments.

Thus our corporate social responsibility policy is to support and work directly with the local fishing community, to maintain sustainability and the best source of fresh quality fish.

Production Facilities

Situated within 5000 square metres in the Rusayl Industrial Estate near Muscat, the Al Marsa Fisheries production plant facility is one of the biggest and most modern in the whole region. Designed to the most stringent Supplier Quality Assurance Scheme, the 2,500 square metre processing plant is equipped with state-of-the-art technology from the leading suppliers in Europe.

With its own sourcing of raw material, logistic support, production methods and marketing network Al Marsa Fisheries ensures reliable supply and delivery of products.

Freshness
